FAMILY SPONSORSHIP
Do you qualify as a Sponsor?
- You must be a Canadian citizen or a Permanent Resident Visa holder.
- You must be 18 years or older.
- You must not be receiving social assistance except for disability reasons (if that is the case)
- You must prove that you can support the person you wish to sponsor.
You cannot be a sponsor if:
- You are less than 18 years old.
- Your Permanent resident visa is still in process and not yet finalized.
- You were convicted of attempting, threatening to commit, or committing a violent criminal offence inside or outside Canada.
- You are not a permanent resident visa holder.
- You will live outside Canada when the person you wish to sponsor receives permanent residency
- You have been sponsored by your spouse in the past 5 years.
- You are in jail, prison or penitentiary.
- You are in default of a court order family support payments, an immigration loan or a performance bond.
- You declared bankruptcy and are not yet discharged.
- You are not a Canadian citizen.
- You are subject to a removal order.
- You are still responsible for sponsoring your previous spouse for a period of 3 years from the date the previous spouse became a permanent resident of Canada.

- Your spouse or common-law Partner living inside Canada
- Your spouse, common-law Partner, or Conjugal Partner living outside Canada
- Your dependent child
